Senior Litigation Paralegal
Mabbitt Bhimani Trial Attorneys · Grand Rapids, Michigan · Full-time · $80,000+, depending on experience
About the firm
Mabbitt Bhimani Law is a boutique plaintiff-side personal injury and medical malpractice firm. We try cases. Our clients hire us because we prepare every file as if it's going to a jury, and many of them do.
We're a small team of dedicated professionals. Your work is visible and your judgment matters from the first week.
The role
This is a senior seat. We're looking for someone who has been the person others bring questions to, and who wants to be that person here.
You'll carry a litigation caseload from intake through resolution. You'll be the team's first stop for procedural questions, and you'll help shape litigation strategy on every case. You'll report to the firm's partners and work directly for Anne Mabbitt, our lead litigator.
What you'll do
- Manage litigation support across the full case lifecycle: pleadings, discovery, records, experts, motions, and trial preparation.
- Serve as the first-line resource for staff procedural questions. Answer what you can, verify what needs verifying, and escalate strategy, valuation, and client-advice questions to the attorneys.
- Supervise the day-to-day work of a junior paralegal and help them grow.
- Run the team's weekly procedural clinic.
- Track and protect deadlines under the Michigan Court Rules and each case's scheduling order.
- Manage medical records collection, review, and completeness, including follow-up when records come back incomplete.
- Coordinate with experts, court reporters, opposing counsel's staff, and courts.
- Work in our case-management platform and the AI-assisted tools we're building, and help shape how they're used.
What you bring
- At least 5 years as a litigation paralegal, with substantial Michigan state court experience.
- Working command of the Michigan Court Rules, especially discovery and scheduling practice.
- Medical malpractice experience strongly preferred, including notice of intent practice and affidavits of merit. Personal injury experience is a plus. Defense-side experience is welcome.
- Trial preparation experience: exhibits, witness logistics, and trial binders.
- Judgment about what you can answer yourself and what belongs with an attorney.
- Interest in teaching. You explain the why, not just the what.
- Comfort with new technology and a willingness to help build better systems.
- Paralegal certificate or degree preferred; equivalent experience considered.
